Sugar Wax Recipe

This homemade sugar wax is smooth, sticky, and pliable with a caramel-like consistency that grips hair without sticking aggressively to skin. It’s a simple, affordable option for at-home hair removal and works best when slightly warm and soft. Perfect for DIY self-care days.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup water

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or heatproof spatula
  • Glass jar or heatproof container

Method

Add sugar, lemon juice, and water to a medium saucepan and stir to combine before turning on the heat.
Place over medium heat and stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
Reduce to medium-low heat and simmer, stirring often, until the mixture turns a deep amber color similar to honey.
Watch closely as it thickens; it should coat the spoon and drip slowly in a ribbon-like stream.
Remove from heat immediately once it reaches a caramel shade to prevent burning.
Let cool for 15–20 minutes until warm but safe to touch; it should be thick and stretchy, not runny.
Transfer to a heatproof glass jar and allow it to cool further if needed before use.

                Notes

Test a small amount on your wrist before applying to ensure it’s not too hot.
If the wax becomes too hard, microwave in 5–10 second intervals to soften.
If too soft or sticky, cook slightly longer next batch for a deeper amber consistency.
