Ingredients

  • 3 pound cubed beef stew meat
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2  tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8  cup all-purpose flour optional, for thickening

Equipment

  •  Slow cooker
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon

Method

  1. Place the cubed beef stew meat into the slow cooker, spreading it evenly across the bottom
  2. Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix over the beef, coating the surface well
  3. Add butter in chunks on top of the meat so it melts evenly during cooking
  4. Pour in the beef broth and add minced garlic, salt, and black pepper
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6–8 hours or until the beef becomes fork-tender and easy to pull apart
  6. Stir once or twice during cooking to blend the flavors and prevent sticking
  7. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix flour with a little water and stir it in during the last 30 minutes
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve hot over rice, noodles, or potatoes

Notes

Sear the beef before slow cooking for a deeper, richer flavor.
Use low-sodium soup mix or broth to control salt levels.
For best texture, choose chuck or stew meat with some marbling.
